Former VHS standout Tavares Johnson, Jr. accepts coaching position
VICKSBURG, Miss. (Vicksburg Daily News) – After starring the gridiron for many years, Tavares Johnson, Jr. has now accepted a job at Hollandale Simmons High School as an assistant coach.
Johnson, former Vicksburg High School quarterback, was recently on the Northside High School staff where he helped lead the team to a 14-1 record. They also advance to the third round of the playoffs in 2020 with help of Johnson’s powerful offense.
At Simmons, Johnson will be the pass game coordinator/junior varsity offensive coordinator while his father Tavares Johnson Sr. will be the head coach.
In high school, Johnson Jr led VHS to the playoffs in his 2013 senior season before heading off to play at Alcorn State University where he helped the Braves to a 2018 SWAC Championship.
Johnson is already off to a great start in his first few years of coaching, and Vicksburg Daily News will bring you along to follow his career as his hometown celebrates his continued success.
